Thermodynamics of aluminium-gadolinium liquid solutions

Description
The pressure of aluminium saturated vapour over its melts with gadolinium has been measured and thermodynamic characteristics of dissolution process during the formation of the mentioned metal solutions are calculated. At the temperatures 1600-2000 K using the method of high-temperature mass-spectrometry the composition of vapour-gas phase over Al-Gd melts practically over the whole range of the system has been investigated, and it is shown that in vapour phase Al and Gd atoms are present. Al vapour pressure over the melts investigated is determined. Activities of Al and Gd, partial and integral values of the Gibbs energy of the melts at 1700 and 1900 K, which testify to a higher strength of atom grouping of components in the metal melt and their strong interaction during the formation of Al-Gd system solutions
