Pulse radiolysis of SeCN- and reactions of (SeCN)2- radicals with biochemical compounds

  • 1. Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Bologna (Italy). Lab. di Fotochimica e Radiazioni d'Alta Energia

Description

The transient absorption produced by pulse radiolysis of SeCN- is due to the radical (SeCN)2-. The reactivity with amino acids of (SeCN)2-, is reported. (SeCn)2- reacts with cysteine only (k=6.7x107 M-1 sec-1) above the limit of measurement; with the other amino acids the reactivity is negligible. The effect of (SeCN)2- on the inactivation of some enzymes is related to the structure of the proteins. (author)
