ASDEX upgrade OHMIC heating circuit
- 1. Max-Planck-Institut fur Plasmaphysik, Euratom Association, D-8046 Garching
Description
The OH system of ASDEX Upgrade provides a maximum flux swing of 9.5 Wb and a maximum plasma breakdown voltage of 35 V. The corresponding OH coil data are 50 kA and 30 kV. The OH coils are to be supplied by a 4-quadrant thyristor rectifier with the rated data: 50 kA/2.7 kV. The breakdown voltage is to be generated by means of a breaker system. This breaker system employs two vacuum switches connected in series, each capable of interrupting 50 kA at a recovery voltage of 30 kV. In this paper the circuit is described in detail and the results of nonlinear simulation including the vacuum vessel and the plasma are shown. Details of the vacuum breaker, which is a new design having an internal axial field, are given
