Description

A single particle model derived from a Lagrangian formalism has been used to describe electron cyclotron heating, with the view to investigating relativistic effects on the velocity diffusion coefficient. It is shown that the large microwave fields lead to less diffusion in velocity space than anticipated by linear models and that ultimately the behaviour is not amenable to a diffusive treatment.
