Description

Samples with the nominal composition YBa2Cu3O7-y have been prepared and implanted with 1 KeV argon ions at a current density of 6 Am-2. Measurements of the electrical resistivity of the implanted samples as a function of temperature have been made yielding values for the midpoint superconducting transition temperature Tc. Tc was found to increase with implantation time up to a maximum value of 98.0 at 1000 sec. and thereafter to decrease. Heat treatment resulted in a recovery of the Tc value of an excess implanted specimen to that before implantation. It is concluded that the compressive stress induced by ion implantation increases Tc. (U.K.)
