Description

The relaxation time lambda-1 of the μ+ spin in α-iron single crystals (99.995 % purity) has been measured from 50 K to 299 K. At room temperature it is about 7 μsec, much longer than even observed. Above 120 K, the temperature dependence of lambda yields Esub(a) = +- 3 meV for the μ+ diffusion. Previous values in a less pure sample are discussed in terms of trapping of the μ+ by defects at higher temperatures. (Auth.)
