Operational report, Program of RA reactor testing operation with 80% enriched fuel at higher power levels
Description
Critical experiments and testing operation at lower power levels with the chosen initial core configuration were successfully completed during January, february and March 1981. According to the limits imposed by the fuel manufacturer and characteristics of the initial core configuration, the nominal power was limited to 4.7 MW. License for testing operation was submitted for this power as a limiting value. This demand was rejected because RA reactor does not have some safety elements such as emergency cooling system and filters in the ventilation system. Later on, license was demanded and obtained for operation at 2 MW power as a limiting value. Operation at this power level was estimated as safe since it could not cause fuel meltdown or significant contamination of the environment in case of accidental loss of coolant. Enclosed program of testing operation at higher power levels is adapted to these limitations, as well as to needs of experimental verification of the fundamental parameters indispensable for RA reactor safety analysis. This includes some parameters related to the possibility of accident with fuel meltdown and contamination of the environment

Kriticni eksperimenti i probni rad na malim snagama sa izabranom pocetnom konfiguracijom jezgra izvrsen je uspesno tokom januara, februara i marta 1981. godine. U skladu sa ogranicenjima proizvodjaca goriva i karakteristikama pocetne konfiguracije jezgra, nominalna snaga ogranicena je za ovu konfiguraciju jezgra na 4,7MW. Za ovu snagu, kao ogranicavajucu vrednost, zatrazena je dozvola za probni rad na vecim snagama. Ovaj zahtev odbijen je sa obrazlozenjem da reaktor RA nema neke elemente sigurnosti, kao sto su sistem za udesno hladjenje i filtri u ventilacionom sistemu. Naknadno je zatrazena i dobijena dozvola za probni rad sa ogranicenjem snage na 2 MW, tj. za rad na snagama za koje se procenjuje da ne mogu dovesti do masovnog topljenja goriva i znatne kontaminacije okoline u uslovima akcidentalnog gubitka hladioca. Prilozeni program probnog rada na vecim snagama prilagodjen je ovim ogranicenjima, kao i potrebama za eksperimentalnom proverom osnovnih parametara na kojima se zasnivaju analize sigurnosti reaktora RA, ukljucujuci neke od parametara koji se odnose na mogucnost desavanja akcidenta sa topljenjem goriva i kontaminacijom okoline (author)Files
