Radiation doses to the lens of the eye during procedures on a 9800 quick C.T. scanner
Description
A series of measurements of absorbed radiation dose given during certain C.T. examinations on the GE 9800 (Quick) scanner installed in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at Princess Alexandra Hospital, was carried out. Measurements were taken using a small waterproof ionization chamber placed at a position in a phantom simulating the position of the lens of the eye. This chamber was connected to a dosemeter calibrated to read directly in units of absorbed dose. These measurements were undertaken to determine the level of radiation dose delivered to the lens of the eye during certain routine examinations of the head, with normally used scanning parameters. Also an estimation of potential doses capable of being delivered to the lens of the eye with the machine operated at close to maximum technique was made
