Instabilities and turbulence in Taylor-Couette flow. Transitions by spectral evolution and phenomena of instability-turbulence interactions
Description
After a definition of the Taylor-Couette flow characteristics, the two main formulations of motion equations in the context of linear and nonlinear approaches are presented and the frequency response of the polarographic probes is calculated. Experimental determination of sensitive parameters related to the structure of secondary movements and average characteristics of parietal flow is presented. Observations of the movement, in transition mode, based on the harmonic and statistical analysis of phase and amplitude data are detailed, and a Landau-Stuart type modeling of flow stability is proposed. An experimental study of the dimensions attached to the structure of turbulence and the determination of its spatial-temporal properties in developed turbulent regime are then presented. The phenomenon of persistence of Taylor cells in turbulence is finally developed
