Local experience on the design and fabrication of eddy current transducers
- 1. Philippine Nuclear Research Institute, Diliman, Quezon City (Philippines)
Description
The design of transducers for eddy current testing plays a very vital role in the effectiveness of this method of non-destructive testing. This paper discussed the local experience on this particular method. The basic parameters considered in the design of transducers were the following: 1) coil impedance, 2) field distribution in space, 3) lift-off characteristics, 4) response to simulated discontinuities and 5) response to property changes. The designs utilized locally available materials and had the unique feature of possible probe-head interchangeability to minimize cost of cable, and for possible probe-head repair. Results were encouraging and offered bright prospects for the utilization of existing costly eddy current instrumentation and for the furtherance of eddy current testing in the country. (ELC)
