Improvement in the compressibility of uranium dioxide powders by surface composition modifications

Description

Adherent compounds of formula UO3, 2H2O are formed on UO2 powder surface by exposition to atmosphere for a long time. These compounds improve the raw material behaviour during its compaction into pellets, the strength of these green pellets, and finally the sintered pellets quality. 7 refs

Abstract (French)

Des composes adherents, de formule type UO3 2H2O, se forment a la surface des poudres de dioxyde d'uranium lors de leur maintien prolonge a l'air ambiant. Ces composes sont a l'origine d'une nette amelioration, tant au comportement de la matiere premiere lors de sa transformation en comprimes crus, que de la solidite de ceux-ci et par consequent de la qualite des produits finis
