CTBT international monitoring system on radionuclides and NDC
- 1. Japan Atomic Energy Research Inst., Tokai, Ibaraki (Japan). Tokai Research Establishment
Description
In the paper, the plan is described for the National Data Center (NDC) to be established at the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute (JAERI) in order for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) activities in Japan. Every country that signs the CTBT may establish an NDC in order to receive seismic, infrasound, hydroacoustic and radionuclide monitoring data from the International Data Center (IDC) in Vienna. The data will be analyzed to detect suspected nuclear explosion. In Japan, the Japan Weather Association (JWA) is supposed to establish an NDC to analyze seismic data and the JAERI will be responsible for an NDC to analyze radionuclides data. At JAERI NDC, it is planned to analyze the radionuclide data of the International Monitoring System (IMS) received via the IDC by executing computer codes developed by JAERI to provide national analysis results in order to contribute to the decision-making of the Japanese Government when a suspected event is detected. In the paper, the tasks of JAERI NDC are described together with necessary hardware and staff. (author)
