Steel sheet-piling cofferdam in saturated sand: Koeberg nuclear power station

The cofferdam constructed to protect the excavation for the pump-houses at Koeberg had a steel sheet-piled wall driven 14m through the upper fine to medium-grained sands and into approximately 1,5m of stiff to very stiff mudrock with occasional patches of greywacke. A sophisticated dewatering system was installed behind the sheet-piling in order to pick up seepage
