Dosimetric quantities in the ICRU sphere for neutron irradiation with energies between thermal and 20 MeV
Description
The doses and dose equivalents produced in the ICRU sphere by broad unidirectional and monoenergetic neutron beams of energies between thermal and 20 MeV are calculated. The program employed makes use of the Monte Carlo method. In particular, the results for proposed operational radiation protection quantities (RPQ), i.e. specified-depth dose equivalent and ambient dose equivalent, are given. Quality factors, including those with and without induced photons, were derived for the proposed RPQ. Angular distribution factors for the irradiation of the ICRU sphere by beams other than a broad unidirectional beam are also presented. In Appendix A the relation of the proposed RPQ to those hitherto (ICRP 21) used is discussed. The tabulated dose equivalents in several depths of the ICRU sphere may be used as conversion factors in radiation protection when the ICRP 21 values are superseded by the proposed operational quantities. In der ICRU-Kugel werden Dosen und Aequivalentdosen infolge der Bestrahlung mit einem breiten parallelen, monoenergetischen Neutronenfeld fuer Energien zwischen thermisch und 20 MeV berechnet. Das Rechenprogramm benutzt die Monte Carlo Methode. Insbesondere werden die Ergebnisse fuer vorgeschlagene Messgroessen des Strahlenschutzes, naemlich die tiefenspezifische Aequivalentdosis und die Ortsaequivalentdosis, vorgestellt. Fuer die neuen Messgroessen werden die Qualitaetsfaktoren einschliesslich und ausschliesslich der induzierten Photonen ermittelt. Auch Winkelverteilungsfaktoren fuer divergente Neutronenbestrahlung der Kugel sind angegeben. Im Anhang A werden Beziehungen zwischen den vorgeschlagenen Messgroessen und den zur Zeit noch verwendeten (ICRP 21) diskutiert. Sobald die vorgeschlagenen Messgroessen fuer verbindlich erklaert werden, koennen die dazu gehoerigen Konversionsfaktoren zum Gebrauch im Strahlenschutz diesem Bericht entnommen werden. (orig.)
