Exciton model analysis of double differential neutron production cross sections for 113-MeV protons

  • 1. Advanced Technology Dept., Century Research Center Corp., Chiba (Japan)

Description

Differential neutron production cross sections at 113-MeV protons for Al, Fe, W and Pb target nuclides were analyzed by the MCEXCITON code based on an exciton model. The exciton model was able to reproduce all the measured DDX. Agreement between the measured and the calculated DDX is satisfactory at 60 deg. and 150 deg. However, at 150 deg., contrary to the HETC code, the MCEXCITON code slightly overestimates the measured DDX for all targets. A slightly modified calculation of the exciton model was carried out by taking the direct knock-on process and the quasi-free nucleon-nucleon scattering such as (p, n) and (p, pn) reactions into account. However, no remarkable improvement was obtained for the disagreement between the measured and the calculated DDX. (orig.)
