Internal kink modes in toroidal plasmas with circular or non-circular cross-section

Description

The stability criterion and linear growth rate of the internal kink modes are given for different magnetic configurations. A method is introduced which allows a simple computation of the internal kink potential energy so long as the modulation of the poloidal magnetic field remains small. (author)
