Securing safety is precondition of nuclear power development

Nuclear power has become an integral component of the long-term power concept in Czechoslovakia. By 1990 the share of electric power generated in nuclear power plants in Czechoslovakia will have increased to 28.6%, by the year 2000 to 53.8%. The concept of electric power generation is based on WWER-440 and WWER-1000 reactors. The operation of reactor units in Jaslovske Bohunice and Dukovany is stable, reliable and safe. After the Chernobyl accident, Czechoslovakia adopted a number of measures with the aim of raising nuclear safety. The questions of the construction and operation of nuclear power facilities are also the subject of an international agreement between Czechoslovakia and Austria. For the further development of nuclear safety, international cooperation within the IAEA has great importance. (J.B.)
