Safety assessment of nuclear power plants built to earlier standards
Description
A common procedure is being developed by the IAEA on which the acceptable level of safety of all operating NPPs built to earlier standards can be judged. Based on general policy, a more practical approach will be elaborated to assist Member States in the safety assessment of older plants by means of expert judgement on a case by case basis. In view of the substantially greater role that judgement plays in the assessment of operating reactor design issues and the variety of plant-specific conditions that must be considered, a number of examples should complement the approach in order to share the broad experience of judgements made in Member States.
