Spurious effects of the pairing force on the dipole sum rule

  • 1. Sevilla Univ. (Spain). Dept. de Fisica Atomica, Molecular y Nuclear

Description

The effect of using the pairing interaction to describe the giant dipole resonance is studied. Realistic calculations for 120Sn show an important increase in the dipole energy-weighted sum rule relative to the classical value of approximately 20%. That increase is aspurious effect of using a non-galilean invariant interaction. It is also shown, by using a schematic model, that the BCS approximation is not responsible for that spurious increase. (orig.)
