Piezoelectric mechanism of orientation of stripe structures in two-dimensional electron systems

Description
A piezoelectric mechanism of stripe orientation in the two-dimensional electron systems in GaAs-Al-GaAs heterostructures is considered. It is shown that according to the theory the preferable stripe orientation along the [110] direction taking into consideration the anisotropy of the elastic moduli and the influence of the sample boundaries. It corresponds to the experimental results. The effect of the stripe structure re-orientation along the [100] direction in a double layer system is found for the stripe structure parameter large, than interlayer distance
