Kinetic properties of ruthenium under magnetic breakdown conditions galvanomagnetic effects

Description

The magnetoresistance and the Hall effect are investigated at 4.2 K and magnetic field strengths up to 100 kOe under magnetic breakdown conditions in the most pure ruthenium monocrystals available at present with rhosub(273.2 k)/rhosub(4.2 k) up to 3000. It is found that magnetic breakdown in ruthenium leads to the formation of three types of magneto-breakdown electron trajectories: open, closed and space-net type. The effect of the trajectories appearing after breakdown on the anisotropy and field dependences of the magnetoresistance and the Hall effect is investigated. In all three cases the formation of magnetic breakdown trajectories is accompanied by quantum oscillations of the magnetoresistance
