Degraded core accidents: Chapter 7

  • 1. Electric Power Research Institute, Palo Alto, CA 94303

Description

Considering the dominant postulated accident sequences for the PWRs and the BWRs, it appears to the authors that R and D should demonstrate (a) that the PWR containments do not fail early and catastrophically (β and γ in WASH-1400 nomenclature), (b) that sufficient retention of fission products is achieved in the PWR primary system and the ECCS piping for the V sequence, and (c) that scrubbing of fission products in the BWR suppression pools is highly effective
