Opaque scintillator cladding material

Description

A scintillator cladding material which is opaque to visible light, transparent to gamma photons and not susceptible to neutron activation even at energies greater than 2 mSv/h where activation of conventional aluminium and polyvinyl chloride claddings can occur during fissile material waste package examination. The cladding material consists of polyethylene ((CH2)n empirical formula) darkened by the addition of carbon black. (authors)
