Nuclear fuel element
Description
Purpose: To prevent the stress corrosion crack of a zirconium alloy cladding tube by containing nitrogen in charging gas filled in the cladding tube charged with nuclear fuel substances. Constitution: Nitrogen is contained in filling gas filled in a zirconium alloy cladding tube. This filling gas contains helium and nitrogen mixture gas so that the partial pressure of the nitrogen in the filling gas is 0.1 to 0.5 atm and the partial pressure of the helium is 1 to 3 atms preferably. Even if iodine corrosion substance is created by the combustion of nuclear fuel substance, the reaction of the corrosion substance with the cladding tube is prevented by the formation of inactive film due to the existence of the nitrogen to prevent the stress corrosion crack of the cladding tube.
