Effect of gamma radiation and camel's milk antibodies on hepatocellular carcinoma in experimental animals

Description

The current study revealed the promising therapeutic benefits of camel milk antibodies in conjunction with low dose radiation on N-nitrosodiethylamine induced hepatocellular carcinoma in rats. Antibodies IgG were purified from camel milk and showed a significant cytotoxicity on HepG2 cells. Multi-stage hepato carcinogenesis was induced in animal model using N-nitrosodiethylamine and carbon tetrachloride. Subsequently, tumor-bearing rats were treated with IgG and/or exposed to a single dose of gamma rays (0.25 Gy). Treatment with camel antibodies and/or gamma radiation reduced liver enzymes activities, alpha fetoprotein levels, enhanced liver histology, attenuated the inflammation and oxidative stress as well as enhanced antioxidant status. Also, it reduced hepatic protein expression of Inducible nitric oxide synthase and down-regulated nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 and Glutathione-S-transferase placental gene expression
