Description

A method for batch manufacturing of plastic scintillators using the commercial-purity granulated polystyrene technique at the thermosoftening automatic machine is described. The process time for one plate 142x146x5 mm in-size at melt temperature in the range of 170-210 deg C and 1.5 kN/cm2 pressure is 2 min. Deviation in plate size is not greater than 0.1 mm. The results of testing the molded polystyrene scintillator transparence and light yield are given, as well as the comparative analysis of these characteristics for samples produced using other technologies is made. The molded polysterene scintillators were used in 16 modules of hadron calorimeter which energy resolution is equal to 14-16% and the coordinate resolution amounts to 2 cm for 37.5 GeV pions minus
