Use of the TLD calibrated in photon fields for individual monitoring in the mixed neutron - photon fields

  • 1. Slovenian Nuclear Safety Administration, Zelezna cesta 16, Ljubljana (Slovenia)

Description

Full text: The use of TLDs for individual monitoring of workers is a well accepted method. The majority of the TL dosemeters can be used for measuring photon doses, partly because the majority of the workplaces can be characterized just with photon fields and partly because the measurement of the neutron dose is much more complex. In industry some radiation sources produce mixed photon - neutron radiation fields, so that both components should be taken into account. In order to simplify the measuring procedure only photon TLD calibrated in photon fields could be used for individual monitoring and the neutron contribution to the dose should be taken into account using other methods. The limitation of the proposed method will be proposed based on a case study. The study will be based on the use of Cs-137 and Am:Be sources in TROXLER gauges using for measurements of density and moisture of materials. (author)
