8Be producing reactions in 12C + 12C, 16O + 16O, and 28Si + 12C

Description

The 12C(12C, 8Be), 16O(16O, 8Be), and 28Si(12C, 8Be) reactions show final state relative populations which are very similar to the corresponding (6Li, d), (7Li, t), (12C, α), and (16O, 12C) reactions on the same target nuclei. Selective population of final states for 12C and 28Si targets is accompanied by rapidly fluctuating excitations for the 12C(12C, 8Be) reactions and much smoother, yet not flat, excitation functions for 28Si(12C, 8Be). Angular distributions are forward peaked. The 16O(16O, 8Be) reaction is not selective, similar to 16O(12C, α)
