Clinical significance of changes of serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels in senile hypertensive patients

Description
Objective: To explore the clinical significance of changes of serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels in senile patients with hypertension. Methods: Serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels were determined with RIA in 165 senile hypertensive patients and 50 controls. Results: In senile hypertensive patients, the serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels were significantly higher than those in the controls. The patients with uncontrolled hypertension (n=88) had higher serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels than those in the well-controlled patients (n=77). Conclusion: Abnormal high serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels were one of the main pathophysiologic features in senile hypertension and might contribute to the intractability. (authors)
