Study on the 160Tb oriented nucleus decay

Description

Decay of 160Tb nuclei implanted into a Gd matrix has been investigated by the nuclear orientation method at extremely low temperatures. The technique of producing samples is described. γ-radiation is recorded by Ge(Li) detectors simultaneously at 0 and 90 deg relative to the direction of an external magnetic field. 4096-channel analyzers were used for measurements. The gamma spectra have been processed by a computer. Asymmetry of angular distribution has been measured for 20 γ-transitions at the temperature of approximately 14 mK. The data of parameters of mixing multipolarities for 17 γ-transitions in 160Dy are mainly in an agreement with the available data. The parameters of hyperfine interaction for 160Tb atoms in gadolinium are determined at the temperatures of 16-120 mK, which are in a good agreement with the values obtained by the nuclear magnetic resonance method. It is noted that the significant difference in the values of the 160Tb γ-radiation asymmetries for the samples made on the base of terbium oxide and chloride requires additional investigations
