Inhibited oxidation of gamma-irradiated polyethylene
- 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Inst. Khimicheskoj Fiziki
Description
Linear polyethylene (PE) oxidation is studied. Radiation effect on polyethylene influences insignificantly the rate of non-inhibited oxidation of solid PE (120 deg, Psub(Osub(2))=300 tor) and influence significantly the oxidation rate of its melt (200 deg, Psub(Osub(2))=300 torr) in the presence of antioxidant. Decrease of thermooxidative stability of irradiated PE at 200 deg cannot be explained by appearance of more reactive groups at radiolysis. Apparently, physical structure of polymer changes at irradiation
