Description
By Moessbauer spectroscopy (151Eu) and luminescence (Eu3+) the authors have studied the double orthophosphate of calcium and europium Ca9Eu(PO4)7, which crystallizes in the structural type of the natural mineral whitlockite (Fedorov group R3c). It was established that the europium cations are nonuniformly distributed over three positions in the structure. The authors discuss the influence of these cations on the structure and properties of the variable-composition phases Ca3-xEu2x/3(PO4)2
