solid state nuclear track detector methodology and its applications for determination of uranium and thorium in solid samples

Description

this thesis is dealing with the application of solid state nuclear trak detectors in determination of thorium and uranium in soil and geological samples, aims to understand track formation mechanisms in solids and use these SSNTDs in determination of thorium and uranium in geological and soil samples . it is consisting of five chapters. chapter(1)the first is an introduction and historical review about discovery and beginning of this type of detectors as nuclear detectors, it is also contain a brief discussion of radiation interaction with matter, in addition to short discussion of track formation models and aim of the work. chapter(2) the second chapter dealing with methodology of track detectors briefly the etching process, track geometry for normal and inclined incidence it also contains a simple discussion of etching efficiency for external and internal detector. it contains also a brief discussion about the properties of nuclear trak detectors Cr-39, Mylar and LR-115-II. chapter(3) the third chapter as we need to calculate the statistical error in the counted track density for every measuring process, we gave in details a discussion for counting statistics and the convenient distribution which can be used to describe the track distribution on the solid state nuclear track detector it wasn't our target but we have seen that it would be more helpful for the beginner to understand directly the problem of statistical error which we faced
