Mathematical Model for vanadium(V) electroreduction kinetics under the conditions of stripping voltammetry at a graphite electrode in NH4Cl solutions of different pH

  • 1. S.M. Kirov Polytechnic Institute, Tomsk

Description

The effect of electrolysis potential on the maximum current of anodic electrooxidation of the vanadium deposit is studied at a graphite electrode in 0.1 M NH4Cl solutions of different pH (7.70, 8.45, 8.85) under conditions where the VO3- undergo reduction to V2O3(s) and V2O2(s). Transfer coefficients were calculated for the reduction of VO3- to V2O3 (s) (a1 = 0.16 + or - 0.01) and of VO3- to V2 O2 (s) (a2 = 0.14 + or 0.02. A semiempirical equation is proposed which describes the experimental relation between maximum current of anodic electrooxidation of oxide V2O3 and the electrolysis potential at different pH, and allows for the probalbe mechanism of vanadium(V) electroreduction under the conditions studied
