Description

The alpha decay half-life of 147Sm has been reevaluated by means of alpha-spectrometry using silicon surface barrier detector. In the present work, known amount of standard solution of natural Sm was mixed with known amount of calibrated 210Po, 238U or 241Am solution to prepare thin deposit for the alpha-spectrometry. The alpha-disintegration rate of known amount of 147Sm was determined by referring to the alpha activity of 210Po, 238U or 241Am. The half-life of 147Sm was determined in this work to be (1.18 ± 0.02)x1011 y. This value is about 20% longer than the currently adopted value of (1.06 ± 0.02)x1011 y. (author)
