Achievement of one-coordinate cross uniformity of magnetic field in central pole of strong field superconducting wiggler

Description

A method of generating a homogeneous magnetic field (ΔB/B<10-4) in a given spatial area (Δx=30 mm, Δy=20 mm) in the wiggler with the help of metal plates, μ>>1, is described. A model representing the metal plates by a frame conductor with current is described. The work is applied in designing strong-field superconducting wigglers as synchrotron radiation sources, since homogeneity of a high-amplitude magnetic field is important for reducing the influence of the wiggler on the electron beam in the storage ring. An example of the method is presented for the BESSY II wiggler which is being designed at Budker INP
