Interaction of CO with silver clusters: dependence on cluster size

Description
The interaction of matrix-isolated silver clusters with CO has been investigated for clusters containing as few as 100 atoms/cluster. A vibrational mode at a monolayer coverage, which is found on bulk silver at 2110 cm-1, is present even for these small particles. For these small-sized particles however, an additional, broad, unresolved band at 1950 cm-1 appears, which does not exist for larger clusters. Whether this band has its origin in a modified chemical behaviour for particles smaller than 100 at/cl is not clear. (orig.)
