Visualisation of retroperitoneal and mediastinal metastisations from the adult testicular teratoma using magnetic resonance imaging

Description

Unlike seminomas, testicular teratomas are generally associated with an unfavourable patient outcome. The therapeutic strategy must be aimed at controlling the frequent lymphogenic metastisation from those tumours by the combined use of various methods. The greatest possible diagnostic accuracy in the detection of lymph node metastases will be achieved, if magnetic resonance imaging is carried out in addition to computed tomography. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

Hodenteratome haben im Vergleich zu Seminomen eine schlechte Prognose. Das therapeutische Ziel muss darauf gerichtet sein, mittels Kombination verschiedener therapeutischer Moeglichkeiten die haeufige lymphogene Metastasierung zu beherrschen. Mit Hilfe der MRT wird in Ergaenzung zur CT das bestmoegliche diagnostische Resultat zum Nachweis von Lymphknotenmetastasen erzielt. (orig.)
