Soliton surfaces: Pt. 4
Description
It is shown that one can introduce a topological charge N for all soliton systems corresponding to the reduction r = -q of the ZS-AKNS spectral problem with an analytic at zeta = 0 dispersion relation. Geometrically, N is a total curvature for a closed smooth curve in the compactified R2. Topologically, N is a degree of some map S1 →S1. Physical interpretations of N are also discussed
