High temperature oxidation and corrosion of metals and alloys

  • 1. Liverpool Univ. (UK)

Description

In this review oxidation thermoynamics of pure metals and alloys is summarized first. Then the mechanism of oxidation of alloys by oxygen or sulfur or a mixture of oxidants with arising problems: oxide growth, diffusion scale formation, alloy structure, grain size, influence of impurities. Finally hot corrosion in combustion gases and fused salts like Na2SO4 or NaCl containing small amounts of impurities (especially vanadium) is described
