Description

Since its very first beginnings the crane is older than the notion engineer. In accordance with scientific Knowledge on formation of image its attributes, which seem not to match the demands of remote operations, can be recited from nearly every ''expert'', such as: load on the hook swings uncontrollable; neither horizontal pull nor push is possible; force of the rope is not perceivable; man has to guide the load by hands on, for only to name those ''knowledges'' which are most widespread. But by looking into the details it becomes obvious, that facts from a variety of very different operating conditions, with most different equipment and with operators of high to very low qualifications are lumped together and that soup is being sold as the only true experience, valid for all times and every place. In course of the tests on remotely controlled maintenance work, done in DWK's test facilities Vilsen and Lahde, to proove that these tasks can be accomplished successfully in the large FEMO-process cells of the German reprocessing plant for spent fuel of LWRs to be built, among other things those crane operation techniques were tested, which are known from isotope separation plants in the United States. It became inevitable to avoid the term ''maintenance from crane'' and the later on impressed ''MTS-maintenance'', because of being too inaccurate, but to describe the in fact used combination of operational means (COOM)
