Effect of helium from neutron irradiation on the mechanical properties of steel

  • 1. Netherlands Energy Reseach Foundation, Petten

Description

In nuclear reactors helium is formed by inelastic interaction of neutrons with isotopes present in structural steels. The effects of helium on the mechanical properties are reviewed for both austenitic and ferritic steels. The theories explaining the embrittling effect of helium are discussed. 9 figs, 45 refs
