Description
The (3He,t) reaction is reanalysed. In addition to the mechanism of Δ excitation in the target, as so far considered, we include the mechanism of Δ excitation in the projectile plus the contribution of the s-wave. Inclusion of the new mechanisms leads to results that are in good agreement with experiment for the reaction on a proton target and gives a distribution for the neutron target that is quite different to the one of the proton. It is shown that this explains naturally the experimental shift of strength to low excitation energy in the deuteron target and should play a major role in the observed shift of strength for this reaction in nuclei.
