Flow field development in MHD diffusers and secondary flow effects in diagonal MHD channels

Description

Detailed three dimensional calculations are made to study the generation of secondary flows in conducting and insulating sidewall diagonal channels. The secondary flows have considerable influence on the velocity overshoots, momentum and thermal mixing, flow asymmetry, and the power output. They tend to diminish the velocity overshoots, to promote mixing, and to introduce flow asymmetry. The gross predictions of the three dimensional model are compared with the experimental data and found to be in good agreement
