Detection of vacuum-UV emission from a laser plasma in Del'fin-1 experiments

Description

This study was part of a larger study of inertial confinement fusion in the high-power Del'fin-1 laser installation. The vacuum-UV emission from the laser plasma was detected by an E-580 grazing-incidence spectrograph over the interval 15--400 A. The properties of the emitting region in the plasma were evaluated by a variety of methods. The electron temperature T/sub e/ was inferred from the ionizational composition of the plasma and the intensity ratio of the OVII resonance line and the dielectronic satellites. The electron density N/sub e/ was inferred from the Stark broadening of OVIII Blamer lines and the intensity of the OVII intercombinational line. The spectral intensity of the emission, E, was calculated under the assumption of isotropic emission. The results are T/sub e/∼100--200 eV, 1019>N/sub e/>3 x 1019 cm-3, and E/sub λ//sub max/∼(5--20) x 10-6 J/A
