Peculiarities of the band structure and some optical properties of a (PbSe)sub(1-x)(SnTe)sub(x) solid solution

Description

Data were obtained on band spectrum of (PbSe)sub(1-x)(SnTe)sub(x) solid solution, and studies were made to elucidate the scattering mechanism using spectra of adsorption by free carriers (AFC). Based on the analysis of AFC spectra of monocrystals of solid solution studied types of scattering mechanisms at high and low temperature are shown. Due to the decrease of elevation rate of L6 level at increasing temperature and elevation rate of L6+ level the width of forbidden band of (PbSe)sub(1-x)(SnTe)sub(x) solid solutions decreases in proportion to SnTe content. Peculiar change of the width of forbidden band with a composition at 77K may be due to predominating contribution of lattice component
