Effect of vent pipe configurations on suppression pool hydrodynamics

Description
Water and Steam Interaction Facility (WASIF) phase-II is being setup at SRI, AERB, Kalpakkam for suppression pool hydrodynamics experiments for various vent pipes configurations. Pre-test analyses have been carried out to evaluate the flow rate, flow pattern and hydrodynamic pressure which will be useful for instrument selection and placing instruments at suitable places for vital information using CFD code. Total six vent pipe configurations (two downward flow exiting type and four side/lateral flow exiting type) were analysed and air instead of steam-air mixture was considered as domain fluid. The analysis finds that the downward exiting configurations are better suitable for suppression pool due to more residence time, less pressure drop and relatively less hydrodynamics forces. (author)
