Distribution of 137Cs in human organism in Vitebsk Region

Description
137Cs in the organisms of the Vitebsk region population (Belorussia) contaminated as a result of the CNPP accident was studied. The method of the direct post-death γ-spectrometry of the organs and tissues, as well as, of lifetime radiometry of the whole organism using radiation counter of a human being was used to carry out measurements. The permanent internal exposure of the organs of the Vitebsk region population was shown to constitute after over 10 years upon the accident due to 137Cs a value ranging from 1.8 μSv/year per thyroid body tissue up to 19 μSv/year per bladder tissue. The internal exposure due to incorporation of radiocesium was insignificant in contrast to irradiation due to the radiation natural sources
Abstract (Russian)
Исследовано содержание 137Cs в организме жителей Витебской области Беларуси в связи с загрязнением в результате аварии на ЧАЭС. Измерения проводились методом прямой посмертной γ-спектрометрии органов и тканей, а также прижизненной радиометрией всего организма с помощью счетчика излучений человека. Показано, что постоянное внутреннее облучение органов жителей Витебской области составляет спустя более 10 лет после аварии за счет 137Cs от 1.8 мкЗв/год на щитовидную железу до 19 мкЗв/год на ткань мочевого пузыря. Внутреннее облучение за счет инкорпорации радиоцезия незначительно в сравнении с облучением за счет естественных источников радиацииAdditional details
