HLW Long-term Management System Development
Description
In this R and D project, we are developing a deep geological disposal system which can manage the long-lived waste and high-level waste to be generated from pyroprocessing in the future nuclear system. The main results during phase-I are as follows; Performance enhancement of EBS and design of In-DEBS to be performed in phase-II in KURT - Manufacture of the high performance EBS and design of in-situ demonstration facility of engineered barrier system in KURT, Development of confidence improvement technologies for disposal safety - Development of complex exposure scenarios based on KURT environment to improve confidence on the disposal safety, Development of technology for characterization of main water conducting features around KURT - Hydrogeological and geochemical characterization of MWCF and in-situ test on spontaneous potential characteristics in groundwater flow field. Completion of extension construction work of KURT phase-II - Construction of KURT phase-II research galleries and planning of future 10-year long-term in-situ tests and experiments programme.
