Management of radioactive waste and hazardous and toxic waste in center for radioactive waste technology

In accordance with the mandate of the law, the Center for Radioactive Waste Technology (PTLR) has implemented radioactive waste management from all parts of Indonesia. Radioactive waste that is managed by PTLR is in the form of solid, liquid, semi-liquid radioactive waste and used sources with low, medium and high activity. Low and medium level radioactive waste has been managed in the Radioactive Waste Management Installation, while high activity waste will be stored in High Activity Waste Temporary Storage (PSLAT). It is necessary to develop PSLAT facilities to match the characteristics of the waste. Hazardous and toxic waste received by PTLR is then sent to a third party for management. There are activities to clean up soil and vegetation contaminated with radioactive Cs-137 and remediation in the field of BATAN Indah housing. The cleanup waste is then stored temporarily in a transit shelter for further management at PTLR. All activities for managing various types of waste have been completed as planned. The objective of this radioactive waste management activity is to ensure the safety of workers, the community and the environment against potential radiation hazards from radioactive waste. (author)
